From relaxing on the long sandy Atlantic beaches, to enjoying local sea food and wine in the harbour side restaurants of La Rochelle, to exploring the pretty canal side village of the Marais Poitevin, or enjoying the high -tech entertainment of Futuroscope.
There are beaches to suit all ages. From the long sandy beaches of the Vendee north of La Rochelle to the dune backed beaches of the Cote Sauvage south towards Royan, and from the town beaches of La Rochelle and Fouras to the Atlantic beaches of Ile de Re and Ile d’Oleron, you will find the perfect escape for the hot and sunny summer days.
The islands of Re and Oleron can easily be reached by car or by taking a boat from the harbour at La Rochelle. Both islands have several pretty villages and ports, full of shops and restaurants all worth a visit. You can take the ferry from Fouras to the traffic free island of Ile d’Aix and spent a leisurely two ot three hours walking around the whole island.
Not to be missed are visits to the numerous distilleries and ‘caves’ in the region. Most notable are the Cognac based distilleries of Hennessy and Remy Martin but there are several private establishments throughout the region,
The region has an incredible history, to vast to mention here, but for those wishing to explore the towns of La Rochelle, Rochefort, Saintes, Cognac and Poitiers are all ‘must visit’ places.
We are located on the southern edge of the Marais Poitevin – a large reclaimed area of land full of pretty villages and canals. For those with interests in bird watching, photography or painting, the Marais Poitevin is an area rich in potential subject matter.
